COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Two houses in Roland caught fire on Tuesday, leaving residents displaced; neighbors are collecting clothes, hygiene products, blankets and pet supplies to help those affected. Donations can be dropped off at Ms. Honey’s Shop (7809 Highway 300) Tuesday through Friday from 8:30 to 6:00 p.m.  5 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Fort Smith Trolley Museum is seeking donations and volunteers to help restore trolley car No. 224, built in 1926, which is nearing 100 years and still gives rides around town — restoration work is needed for original wood and framing, and interested helpers may visit 100 S 4th St.  4029 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Fort Smith School Board will vote on closing Spradling and Carnall elementary schools in January; Deputy Superintendent Tiffany Bone (who presented the proposal on Monday) said the decision remains under review.  River Valley Democrat-Gazette
  • Greenwood Board of Education approved the 2026-27 calendar and discussed expanding outdoor education during a meeting last Thursday (where East Point Elementary teacher Jill McMahan and six students presented plans) for a spring program.  River Valley Democrat-Gazette

  • Little Rock Hall secured a 59-48 win over Van Buren in overtime during the first round of the Foster Roofing Holiday Classic at Fort Smith Southside on Thursday, Dec. 18 using a strong defensive push that saw them score 13-2 in extra time.  River Valley Democrat-Gazette
