  • Local law enforcement is urging residents to plan sober rides as the National Winter DWI Mobilization continues from Dec. 12 to Jan. 1 — the campaign warns that drunk driving is illegal and risks lives during the holidays.  City of Fort Smith

CULTURE NEWS

  • The 2025 Fort Smith International Film Festival reached 330 million viewers globally and a five-year total of over 2.2 billion, organizers announced Wednesday. The festival is working with the Singapore Film Commission on the 2026 event and will announce dates and location in January.  River Valley Democrat-Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Arkansas Educational Television Commission voted on Dec. 11 to end PBS membership after nearly 60 years by citing rising costs. PBS Arkansas will rebrand as Arkansas TV on July 1, 2026 — Fort Smith residents may still view PBS over the air from neighboring states.  Southwest Times Record

  • Fort Smith Southside's boys basketball coach Chuck Davis led his team to its first varsity win over Prairie Grove (in Farmington), marking a milestone under his new leadership.  River Valley Democrat-Gazette
  • Mansfield sophomore quarterback Jubal Parks (13) threw his first pass in a Class 3A semifinal title appearance after leading an offense that gained more than 4,600 rushing yards this season. The contest was held on Friday, Dec. 5 at Tiger Stadium.  River Valley Democrat-Gazette
  • Fort Smith Northside senior Camryn Schmidt helped her team edge Argyle Friday night after scoring only eight points in a first-round Tournament of Champions game—she raised her play in a tight contest. The win added a boost to local high school sports.  River Valley Democrat-Gazette
