CULTURE NEWS

  • Local nonprofit RiverBoy Foundation will honor Fort Smith artists at 5 p.m. Saturday in the Bakery District—this awards ceremony celebrates the city’s music community.  River Valley Democrat-Gazette

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Arkansas Tech University honored 19 of the Last 9 award recipients at Doc Bryan Student Services Center on Saturday—recognizing leaders like Fort Smith attorney Reid Wheeler and Alma High School Ag Teacher Kisia Holland during ATU's 2025 Homecoming celebration.  River Valley Democrat-Gazette
  • The University of Arkansas — Fort Smith installed new robotics and automation equipment in its Advanced Manufacturing Lab using over $5.7M from a HIRED grant, including two FAS-200 systems and three ABB Cobot FlexTrainers that give students hands-on experience in assembly and robotics. The lab will soon add two RTS-200 systems — a move that boosts training in smart manufacturing for future industry needs.  University of Arkansas Fort Smith

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Arkansas Department of Human Services warned SNAP recipients to prepare for delays if the federal shutdown continues into November—families are urged to stock up on shelf-stable foods and check local food banks for help.
