  • Fort Smith residents will have an opportunity for reflection when floating lanterns light Wildcat Mountain Lake at the first Water Lantern Release Fall Festival held at Carol Ann Cross Park on Oct.25 from 3-8 p.m. The event offers a new chance for the community to gather and experience a peaceful evening.  River Valley Democrat-Gazette

CULTURE NEWS

  • Brother and sister group Common Roots will join a traditional song circle — featuring Chuck Dunlap, Ed Carr, Alan Castleberry, Jimmy Boose, and Ernie Hill — at the Beard and Lady Inn on October 25 from noon to 4 p.m., where local musicians are invited to join the circle.  River Valley Democrat-Gazette
  • Western Arkansas Ballet is hosting the annual Sugar Plum Fairy Tea at Fort Smith Riverfront Glass Pavilion on November 23 at 2 p.m.—guests can meet Nutcracker characters, make Christmas crafts, and enjoy sweets while choosing general admission ($30 for children and $20 for adults) or a VIP pass ($40 for all ages)—this event offers a festive holiday treat.  River Valley Democrat-Gazette

  • Representatives from the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith will visit the University of Arkansas Community College in Morrilton on Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.—they will offer a free lunch and explain academic pathways and financial aid options for transfer students.  River Valley Democrat-Gazette

  • Van Buren held Fort Smith Southside to a season-low score Friday night at Blakemore Field. The win improved their conference record to 4—0 for the first time since 1996.  River Valley Democrat-Gazette
  • The Rogers Heritage War Eagles ended years of frustration with a thrilling overtime win on Friday—Fort Smith Northside fell when an errant two-point pass error led to a 41 to 40 loss at David Gates Stadium in 7A-West Conference play.  River Valley Democrat-Gazette
