- ➤ South 46th Street from Phoenix Avenue to Savannah St will be closed today through Oct. 13 for drainage improvements—officials say the work will boost water flow to help prevent flooding. Drivers are advised to use alternate routes during the closure. City of Fort Smith

- ➤ A lawsuit filed Oct. 6 by a Franklin County citizen challenges Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders and Secretary of State Cole Jester’s timeline to hold a special election for Senate District 26 after Sen. Gary Stubblefield died on Sept. 2—Colt Shelby says the revised June 9 election date violates state law by delaying the election beyond 150 days and leaving voters without representation for key budget sessions. 5 News

- ➤ The University of Arkansas at Fort Smith joined a statewide effort to train college students about the deadly risks of counterfeit pills laced with fentanyl. On Monday the campus held a session for nearly 200 students and received Fentanyl Harm Prevention kits — Attorney General Tim Griffin led the initiative and UAFS police officer Sgt.
