  • South 46th Street from Phoenix Avenue to Savannah St will be closed today through Oct. 13 for drainage improvements—officials say the work will boost water flow to help prevent flooding. Drivers are advised to use alternate routes during the closure.  City of Fort Smith
  • The City of Fort Smith Mayor and Board of Directors will attend the Fort Smith Regional Chamber of Commerce 2025 Annual Meeting today from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Fort Smith Convention Center—55 South 7th Street.  City of Fort Smith
  • A lawsuit filed Oct. 6 by a Franklin County citizen challenges Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders and Secretary of State Cole Jester’s timeline to hold a special election for Senate District 26 after Sen. Gary Stubblefield died on Sept. 2—Colt Shelby says the revised June 9 election date violates state law by delaying the election beyond 150 days and leaving voters without representation for key budget sessions.  5 News
  • City officials approved a street closure for sections of Ward Avenue to Terry Street, Roberts Boulevard, and Taylor Avenue for TREO Foundation’s The Walk — 5K Fun Run scheduled for October 11th from 10 AM to 1 PM.  City of Fort Smith

HEALTH NEWS

  • The University of Arkansas at Fort Smith joined a statewide effort to train college students about the deadly risks of counterfeit pills laced with fentanyl. On Monday the campus held a session for nearly 200 students and received Fentanyl Harm Prevention kits — Attorney General Tim Griffin led the initiative and UAFS police officer Sgt. Gartrell earned a Naloxone Lifesaving Award for his quick response with Narcan.  River Valley Democrat-Gazette

  • Senior fullback Andrew Burton rushed for 193 yards on 30 carries and 3 touchdowns to lead Mansfield to a 35-24 win against Charleston on Friday—continuing his running legacy.
