  • The Fort Smith community held a candlelight vigil Monday night to honor political activist Charlie Kirk as hundreds gathered with candles, prayers, and memories at the event hosted by the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith chapter of Turning Point USA — leaders called for peace and an end to political violence during the gathering.  4029 News

CRIME NEWS

  • Fort Smith Northside High School was evacuated Monday morning after a bomb threat—officials have not released further details and 2,433 students attend the school.  4029 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The University of Arkansas at Fort Smith is celebrating Constitution Week with events that started Monday and will continue through Friday—today the campus hosts a voter registration drive and lectures while a Constitution display is available at the library. This program commemorates the 238th anniversary of the U.S. Constitution and aims to help students learn about the country’s founding documents.  River Valley Democrat-Gazette
  • Visiting instructor Lee Stovall uses empathy to help UAFS business students connect with lessons from his time as a Treasury special agent and IRS revenue agent—teaching them accounting and financial investigations.   • Greenwood City Council met to review rising cost estimates for a planned walking trail tunnel along the Greenwood bypass at Arkansas 10 — as a result, walkers may soon have to use alternative crossing options.  River Valley Democrat-Gazette
  • Today, the Fort Smith Board of Directors will vote on changes to the OVG management agreement to boost the convention center’s income and on more than $3.8M in projects for sewer repairs, park fixes, and transit improvements including a new CNG bus and fueling station upgrade with heavy federal reimbursement — the board will also approve payments and easements needed for federally mandated sewer work — to support city services.  Southwest Times Record
