EDUCATION NEWS

  • Hailey Hadley, a junior at UAFS, returned home after spending four weeks studying abroad at Lady Margaret Hall at Oxford—where she learned about social psychology and behavioral neuroscience. She now continues her studies and forensic psychology internship while inspiring others to pursue similar academic opportunities.  University of Arkansas Fort Smith
  • Today Gov Sanders appointed David Peacock, president of Hytrol Conveyor Company in Jonesboro, to the State Board of Education replacing Sarah Moore. He has over 11 years of business experience and a Marine Corps background even though he has no direct experience in education, and he will help guide workforce readiness and literacy programs.  Arkansas Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Director Lee Kemp requested a special study session on Tuesday, September 16 right after the 6:00 p.m. regular meeting at the Blue Lion – 101 North 2nd Street – so the board can review the 2026 preliminary budget requests for the Water Utilities Department. The four director votes needed were reached when Directors Jarred Rego, Andre' Good, and Neal Martin joined his request while three others did not concur.  City of Fort Smith

  • Today a fumble turned a close game into a blowout when Coweta forced Northside to lose a chance at a game-tying touchdown and then scored the final 17 points in the third quarter—changing the outcome.  River Valley Democrat-Gazette
