- ➤ The University of Arkansas at Fort Smith Army ROTC Lion Company will hold its annual stair climb on Thursday starting at 6 a.m. at the Stubblefield Center (5402 Kinkead Ave) to honor the 343 first responders from 9/11 and the 40 heroes from Shanksville, with water provided for participants. - ➤ Today the Department of the Air Force holds a public hearing from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Fort Smith Convention Center about expanding the Foreign Military Sales Pilot Training Center at Ebbing Air National Guard Base to increase F-35 training capacity - public comments are accepted by mail or online until Sept. 24. - ➤ Today, the Fort Smith Board of Directors will review a proposal by the River Valley Film Society through Border Town Live to create an entertainment fund that invoices event-related costs and a draft amendment to its management contract with Oak View Group that would allow off-site catering and extend its term—along with an initial look at the preliminary 2026 budget compiling complete new departmental requests. - ➤ Fort Smith Police Department suspended online incident reporting on Sept. 8 due to a technology upgrade to the new ProPhoenix system—citizens can still file reports in person at 100 S. 10th Street or via the non-emergency number 479-709-5000. City of Fort Smith
- ➤ The Arkansas Department of Transportation announced that Arkansas 253 between I-540 and Highway 45 in Fort Smith will have alternating northbound — southbound lane closures from 8 a.m. Monday until 5 p.m. Nov. 3 for overlay work. One lane in each direction will remain open while motorists follow temporary signals as construction progresses. River Valley Democrat-Gazette
