COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Families from across the River Valley will gather later this week in Greenwood for the five-day Sebastian County Fair and Rodeo, which will begin Tuesday at the Sebastian County Fairgrounds. Admission is $7 for adults and $4 for children except on opening night — a $1 fee that supports Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, and the fair will include live music, family competitions and rodeo events on Friday and Saturday to boost riders' points.  River Valley Democrat-Gazette

CRIME NEWS

  • A Fort Smith man — 19-year-old Seth D. Osborn from the 4400 block of North 55th Street — was arrested Thursday for aggravated robbery involving attempts to cause death or serious injury and is held on $30,000 bond at the Sebastian County Adult Detention Center.  River Valley Democrat-Gazette

SPORTS NEWS

  • Peyton Zimmerman, a senior receiver/safety at Fort Smith Southside, earned All-State honors last season after making 50 receptions and compiling 1,413 all-purpose yards—he has now committed to Harding University.  River Valley Democrat-Gazette
  • Braxton Canada, a sophomore receiver with the Greenwood Bulldogs, is named as one of the top five newcomers to watch in River Valley this season — he is expected to follow in the steps of great receivers and boost his team’s play in upcoming football games.  River Valley Democrat-Gazette
  • Booneville's Anna Ferguson opened the golf season with a win at Little Creek Country Club — where she shot a 49 on Monday — and helped lead her team to a tournament championship ahead of Scranton while Charleston's Maddix Terry also recorded a win.  River Valley Democrat-Gazette
