CRIME NEWS

  • Two of three River Valley area teenagers have been found safe—17-year-old Jaden Teague from Roland and 16-year-old Tristin Clouse from Fort Smith were reported safe after being missing since Sunday and July 29—while 16-year-old Jakavian Milton from Fort Smith remains missing after he was last seen Aug. 8 and residents are urged to call Fort Smith Police with any information.  River Valley Democrat-Gazette

CULTURE NEWS

  • Comedian Roz Hernandez will perform at Sway on Wednesday, Aug. 20 at 7:30 p.m. as part of her tour with ticket prices ranging from $12—$37—she is known for her paranormal work on a Hulu series and her Ghosted! podcast.  Arkansas Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At Thursday's Greenwood School Board meeting, officials honored student Julia Witherington for scoring a perfect ACT score of 36— the highest possible. The board approved a pay adjustment for bus drivers to match changes in bus routes.  River Valley Democrat-Gazette
  • University of Arkansas-Fort Smith held a busy move-in week starting Aug 11—first-year students including Cub Camp participants moved in and reached a record 880 on-campus residents by Aug 15. Fall classes will begin on Aug 18.  4029 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Fort Smith Board of Directors will meet on Aug. 19 at the Blue Lion to vote on projects that aim to boost the local economy, including a Tax Back Program from Project Synergy that will invest $5.56M to add 63 jobs at $25 per hour. The board will also review a $125,000 water meter audit and consider annexation, historic site support, and utility projects—further steps to improve city services.  Southwest Times Record

  • Arkansas’s Becoming an Outdoors Woman weekend will be held at the 4‑H Center in Ferndale from October 3 to 5 and will offer women aged 18 and older hands‑on training in hunting, fishing, outdoor skills, and conservation—helping them build confidence and form lasting connections. This program will provide beginner to advanced sessions that empower participants to explore the outdoors with new skills.  5 News
