- ➤ A 25-year-old Eureka Springs man is set for trial for firing one shot that killed a Fort Smith man outside an apartment early July 18 — the jury trial will begin the week of Dec. 1. River Valley Democrat-Gazette

- ➤ Ozark Folkways will host its first Tomato Festival on August 2 at Mount Gaylor with live music, craft activities, artisan vendors, garden demonstrations, and a tomato cooking contest from 2 to 3 p.m. Admission is $10 with contest entry at $15 (children 12 and under attend free) (prizes will be awarded for taste, creativity, and presentation). - ➤ Filmmaker Ashleigh Marie Thornton’s short film ‘Dead Air’ will have its Arkansas premiere at 6 p.m. on Aug. 9 in the Main Room of the Fort Smith Convention Center during the Fort Smith International Film Festival — the 13-minute movie shows a woman who hears a mysterious message from an antique radio. Thornton filmed the movie at her home and was inspired by classic horror to create a suspenseful story for festival audiences. River Valley Democrat-Gazette
