On Wednesday at the Arkansas Oklahoma Gas office in Fort Smith, eight River Valley nonprofits received $50,000 in grants through the Summit Cares Program to expand services that meet basic human needs & support community enrichment.

ArcBest (a Fort Smith freight firm established in 1966) laid off 60 workers this week, affecting roughly 2% of its workforce.

ArcBest announced on Thursday that it will cut about 280 jobs (2% of its workforce) through planned attrition and operational changes to boost efficiency.

The move is part of a broader strategy that will improve its overall performance locally.

Fort Smith Museum of History will host its first Brew on the Border on July 25 from 5 to 9 p.m. at 320 Rogers Ave, offering adults 21+ craft beverage tastings with over 25 regional partners, food trucks + live music, and VIP access to support museum programs.

Fort Smith Northside senior Isabella Kindrick earned Girls Scholar Athlete of the Year honors on May 20 at the Prep Rally Sports luncheon, after excelling in basketball, tennis and academics as valedictorian - a talent inspired by her medical school parents.
