  • Fort Smith will honor hometown NBA champions Isaiah Joe and Jaylin Williams at Thunder In The Fort—a free celebration on Thursday, July 24th that runs from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at The Bakery District downtown. At 6:00 p.m., the parade will travel along Garrison Avenue and the players will speak at 7:15 p.m. after the parade.  City of Fort Smith

  • A Van Buren man — police said he shouted 'I'm a real deal killa' as he left the scene of a fatal April stabbing — is set to go on trial — Nov. 5 to 7 —.  River Valley Democrat-Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • ADOT crews are clearing trees and rocks near Highway 22 in Barling as they prepare to build a bridge over the Arkansas River—this is the first phase of a 13-mile stretch that will connect I-49 from Alma to provide nonstop travel to the south side of Fort Smith. A groundbreaking is planned for Aug. 22 when work on the bridge substructure will begin.  4029 News
  • The 184th Attack Squadron at Ebbing Air National Guard Base in Fort Smith was named the best in the country after completing 314 combat missions and providing thousands of hours of surveillance and intelligence. The squadron earned the 2024 General Atomics Remotely Piloted Aircraft trophy — recognizing its top ranking among all Air Force active duty, guard, and reserve units.  5 News
  • Sebastian County officials are reworking the Parrot Island Waterpark lease after questions arose from Fort Smith residents. The amended offer will set a deadline — and include other changes.  River Valley Democrat-Gazette
