EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Wednesday, first responders and medical students from the Medical Applications of Science for Health program worked with hospital staff at Baptist Health-Fort Smith in a mock crash training where a flipped bus simulated a drunk driver collision—participants practiced rescue, treatment, and transport—and the drill tested their communication and rapid aid skills.  River Valley Democrat-Gazette
  • Jewel Cheely, a 2025 Mulberry High graduate, received a Farm Credit of Western Arkansas academic scholarship and is one of 40 western Arkansas students to earn the award. She will attend the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith in the fall — her parents are Farm Credit members who supported her academic journey.  River Valley Democrat-Gazette
  • Daimya Parker from Alma has been selected for Class XV of the McKnight Scholars Leadership Program at Oklahoma State University. She will receive a scholarship package (worth $85,000) that includes an out-of-state tuition waiver and a $5,000 cash award per year for four years (which also offers a short-term study abroad program) from a highly competitive process.  River Valley Democrat-Gazette
