- ➤ Federal immigration officers arrested Julio, a Northwest Arkansas man in Fort Smith moments after his USCIS interview approved his I-130 petition, and he was taken into Sebastian County Jail with plans to be transferred to a detention facility in Louisiana, leaving his wife, Giselle, and his attorney at Bogart, Small & Duell shocked. 5 News

- ➤ Today, a celebration honoring 50 years since Vietnamese refugees arrived at Fort Chaffee is held at the Chaffee Crossing Historic District at 7313 Terry St—from 7 to 9:30 p.m. The free festival features live music, food trucks and fireworks, and a ticketed VIP dinner with Chef Trong Nguyen and special guest Dat Nguyen will begin at 6 p.m. at JKC Cellars. - ➤ The Fort Smith Board of Directors approved a $334,248 contract with Denali Water Solutions LLC to clean a storage lagoon earlier this week—though the vote was not unanimous. River Valley Democrat-Gazette
- ➤ The Sebastian County Quorum Court approved grant applications on Tuesday to seek $1.75 million in state funds for two parks—parks director Jay Randolph presented the county's request at the meeting. River Valley Democrat-Gazette
- ➤ Arkoma Mayor Joshua Johnson led a meeting on June 19 to discuss possible legal action after the Fort Smith Board decided on June 17 to let a 225% sewer rate increase take effect—he said there is no plan to sue while efforts continue for an equitable resolution. He noted the steep rate hike would burden more than 600 customers. 5 News
