  • On June 20, the Chaffee Crossing Historic District at 7313 Terry St. in Fort Smith will host a free community festival to mark 50 years since Vietnamese refugees arrived—featuring live music, food trucks, family fun and a fireworks finale at 9 p.m. A ticketed VIP dinner with cuisine by James Beard Award finalist Trong Nguyen and special guest Dat Nguyen will begin at 6 p.m. with limited seating.  River Valley Democrat-Gazette

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A crash between a pickup truck and a semi on Interstate 40 just north of Fort Smith near the Arkansas Weigh Station has backed up traffic in both eastbound lanes and left some people injured—while a second collision less than a mile north affected the left shoulder with no injuries reported.  4029 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • University of Central Arkansas student Kennedy Holland, 20, was crowned 2025 Miss Arkansas Saturday night in Greenwood. She will represent the Natural State in the Miss America competition this fall—her Compassion Legacy initiative aims to fund recreational spaces.  4029 News
  • The U.S. Marshals Museum in Fort Smith will host former U.S. Marshals Service Director Stacia Hylton at 6 p.m. on June 27 for the True Crime series event Chasing Shadows: Inside the Hunt for Notorious Fugitives. She will share key stories from her career including manhunts for Eric Frein, James 'Whitey' Bulger and Joaquín 'El Chapo' Guzmán—registration is required and tickets cost $10.  River Valley Democrat-Gazette

  • The Fort Smith Board of Directors will consider two rate options Tuesday—this step seeks to resolve stalled talks over wastewater issues with Arkoma.  River Valley Democrat-Gazette
  • Fort Smith’s Board of Directors will consider an ordinance Tuesday to change the base rate for ambulance services so that it matches state law—officials said the change is needed to meet new state rules. City leaders expect the new rate will make billing clear—officials added that the move follows the Legislature’s new law.  River Valley Democrat-Gazette
