- ➤ Fort Smith Police responded to a vehicle accident at Rogers Avenue and South 74th Street on May 11—causing traffic delays and advising drivers to use alternate routes. City of Fort Smith
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The collision repair technology program at Arkansas Tech University-Ozark Campus was re-accredited after a review by the Automotive Service Excellence Education Foundation, which praised the program for its high standards and modern training in areas like frame alignment and dent removal. Faculty said that the renewed accreditation will help students get up-to-date skills and improve their chances for long-term success. River Valley Democrat-Gazette
- ➤ Girl Scouts and organization leaders broke ground last Wednesday on a $1.3 million project in Burnham Woods (expanding STEAM programs and updating historic facilities). The project will update Kelley Cabin and convert a former office into an arts education center while fundraising continues through summer with a grand opening planned for December. - ➤ Fort Smith voters will decide on Ordinance 1925, which would use sales tax to pay for sewer improvements and secure revenue bonds per a federal consent decree—early voting is open today and the election is Tuesday, May 13 while officials warn that failure could lead to higher sewer rates. 4029 News

- ➤ May marks Skin Cancer and Melanoma Awareness Month in Fort Smith as Dr. Sandy Johnson of Johnson Dermatology stressed that regular skin checks can catch early signs of cancer—Alison Houston's 2020 full-body scan found stage one melanoma in time for prompt treatment.
