  • The Fort Smith Fall Festival offered living history demonstrations on Monday, May 4 at Fort Smith National Historic Site, featuring cannon firings & mounted combat displays that highlighted the area’s frontier legacy. ECONOMY NEWS

  • Electricity bills in Arkansas are predicted to be 11.5% higher this summer than last year because of grid updates, increased demand from data centers, and warmer weather. LIHEAP applications for relief will open early June for vulnerable groups and early July for the general public.  4029 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Today, University of Arkansas at Fort Smith opened its new Advanced Manufacturing and Workforce Development Centers to train students for future jobs. Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders and local leaders attended the ribbon-cutting as nearly $6 million in state grants and a $1 million contribution from ABB helped fund the initiative.  4029 News

  • Cleanup crews continued work on US Route 271 after a ruptured tank at C & S Chemicals spilled about 125,000 gallons of sulfuric acid and aluminum sulfate Saturday; residents are asked to avoid the area while environmental tests and remediation continue.  River Valley Democrat-Gazette

  • The City of Fort Smith is hiring for seasonal summer jobs at Creekmore Park as its renovated pool and bathhouse prepare to reopen May 28 at noon; applicants are encouraged to apply online early since openings fill quickly.  4029 News
