  • Today, downtown Fort Smith hosts the 10th annual Steel Horse Rally along Garrison Avenue—hundreds of bikers join free family-friendly events including a motorcycle parade at 4 p.m., the Cops and Cones exhibition at 10 a.m., and the debut of the Unsung Heroes award at 5 p.m. Additional activities include the Highest Peak Run ride to Mount Magazine, a vintage bike show at the U.S. Marshals Museum, and more than 75 vendor areas, while every five-dollar donation benefits local nonprofits.  River Valley Democrat-Gazette

  • Fort Smith Police responded to a single-vehicle accident at 8100 Highway 271 on May 2 that caused serious injuries and traffic delays — drivers were urged to use alternate routes until the scene was cleared.  City of Fort Smith

  • Fort Smith Police Department located a vehicle linked to the investigation of 18-year-old Mohamed Alpha from Columbus — anyone with information is asked to call 479-709-5000.  City of Fort Smith
  • On Friday, May 2, Fort Smith Police responded to a shooting at North 7th and North 8th Streets — officers confirmed the gunshot wound was self-inflicted on one individual who later died.  City of Fort Smith

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Twelve UAFS students earned a Certificate of Distinction in Professional Development from the Babb Center for Career Services on May 2 — recognizing their participation in workshops, internships, and networking events — and they will receive a cord and signed certificate at graduation.  University of Arkansas Fort Smith
