  • United Way of Fort Smith Area will host its sixth annual United Way Classic golf tournament May 5 through May 9 at Hardscrabble Country Club and has partnered with the ANNIKA Women's All Pro Tour to bring over 100 aspiring LPGA players from 16 countries. The week begins with a Youth Clinic on May 5, followed by a Pro-Am tournament on May 6, professional play at 8:00 a.m. on May 7 and a championship check at 2:00 p.m. on May 9 + proceeds will benefit local partner agencies.  River Valley Democrat-Gazette

  • Freight hauler and logistics company ArcBest reported a first quarter net income of $3.1 million Tuesday—CEO Judy R. McReynolds said the company made progress despite a tough freight market and shifting trade policies.  River Valley Democrat-Gazette

  • Fort Smith police arrested Ladaryl M. Lankford, 46, on April 28 for allegedly raping a person after switching their medication so they could not wake up on March 30 — hidden camera recordings from 2016 to 2025 appear to show his actions.  4029 News

  • A photography exhibition showcasing May Pang’s images from John Lennon’s lost weekend will open at M2 Gallery from May 2 to 4. The free event offers viewings on Friday from 5—8 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m.—5 p.m., and Sunday from noon—4 p.m.  Arkansas Times
  • Due to a rainy forecast, Thursday's final Levitt AMP concert for the spring season will move indoors to Majestic Fort Smith at 817 Garrison Ave, with doors opening at 5:30 p.m. and music starting at 6 p.m.—the event features Grammy-nominated Southern Avenue and local group the Brooke White Band and remains free and family friendly.   River Valley Democrat-Gazette

  • University of Arkansas alumnus Will Feland donated $1 million to create the Land of Opportunity Scholarship — a gift meant to close funding gaps for students statewide. The three-year initiative will boost education access across all 75 counties and grow university ties with local businesses.  5 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • State health officials confirmed the first community spread measles case in Arkansas this year when a not fully vaccinated patient visited Conway Regional Greenbrier Family Medicine on April 18 and 21 and Irby Dance Studio on April 23. Anyone at these locations during those times is urged to update their MMR vaccine and monitor for symptoms for 21 days—steps taken to help contain the outbreak.  Arkansas Times
