- ➤ Bass Pro Shops will open its new Fort Smith store on Wednesday, April 29, with doors opening at 9 a.m. The 70,000 sqft store features outdoor gear + a 19,000-gallon aquarium and four-day festivities including conservation fundraisers, a community cookout, and fishing legends meet-and-greets. 5 News

- ➤ University of Arkansas at Fort Smith volunteers spent 1,928 minutes on 26 fundraising projects from 8 a.m. Tuesday until finishing today at 4:08 p.m., aiming to raise $62,000 during the Day of Giving, which includes a birthday party at the Recreation and Wellness Center (525 N 51st St). HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Baptist Health Fort Smith closed its obstetrics unit after a sharp drop in births, prompting 40 nurses to seek transfers or return to school. Nurse Loralee Hamman, after 26 years with the unit (serving the community since the 1950s), said the farewell marked the end of an era. 4029 News

- ➤ The Fort Smith Northside Grizzlies overcame a rain delay to secure a conference win over Springdale at Hunts Park on April 28. The team quickly picked up the pace to turn the game in their favor. River Valley Democrat-Gazette
- ➤ Fort Smith Southside defeated Rogers Heritage 4-3 in a 6A-West Conference softball game today. Isabella Sartin hit a two-run double in the eighth (tying the game) and Abi Jones drove in the winning run as Autumn Phelan earned the win for Southside. River Valley Democrat-Gazette
- ➤ The Waldron Lady Bulldogs won three relays Monday at the 4A-4 District Track Meet at Clarksville and earned the district title with 276.5 points, beating Pottsville (which had 233.5 points). River Valley Democrat-Gazette
