CULTURE NEWS

  • Children’s author Kate Milford will visit two local schools before signing her new book Rialto at the Fort Smith Public Library today, as the River Valley Literary Society partners with the library to host her event.  River Valley Democrat-Gazette
  • Two art exhibitions will open on May 15 at the Fort Smith Regional Art Museum with an opening reception from 5 to 7 p.m. No Reservations features Jon Williams’ sculptures and paintings — highlighting Native American culture — while Reflections in Water shows the museum's watercolor pieces through Sept. 13.  River Valley Democrat-Gazette
  • Rock and roll legend Levon Helm is featured in the upcoming exhibition 'This Wheel's Still On Fire' at Walton Arts Center's Alexander Gallery at Porter Art Warehouse from June 16 to Sept. 6 — the exhibit will showcase rare photos, instruments, memorabilia and awards with interviews from fellow musicians.  River Valley Democrat-Gazette

  • Fort Smith Northside senior Trey Hudlow—named Boys Swimmer of the Year—pushed his limits at the Feb. 12 Conference meet at the Jones Center to build on his record from last year. His innovative approach highlights a standout senior year in the pool.  River Valley Democrat-Gazette
  • Fort Smith Southside senior Mackenzie Humphries earned all-state honors and was named Girls Bowler of the Year after improving by more than 100 pins in her final season, continuing her family's bowling legacy.  River Valley Democrat-Gazette
  • Senior Antonio Burton helped the Fort Smith Southside Mavericks secure a state tournament berth on April 2 by bowling one of his best games in the 6A West Conference championship.
