Fort Smith Police and Fire responded to a structure fire today at Shamrock Liquor on Midland Blvd—heavy traffic delays have led officials to ask motorists to avoid the area while investigations continue with no injuries reported.

The Fort Smith Fire Department and Police Department responded to a fire at Shamrock Liquor on Midland Boulevard on April 16 around 5 a.m.—traffic was delayed and no injuries were reported as officials investigated the cause.

On April 9, Fort Smith police said the suspect in the double murder pointed his gun at a woman—who shouted 'Please don’t shoot me!'—and fled the scene.

The city of Fort Smith is hosting public meetings ahead of the May 13 election to discuss proposals to extend and rearrange taxes and to authorize a bond issue to fund federally mandated wastewater improvements—residents can ask questions about the proposals at these meetings.

The first meeting is held today at 6 p.m. in the Public Library community room, with additional sessions set for April 28 and May 5.

Two Sebastian County deputies were honored Tuesday at the Quorum Court for lifesaving efforts during a swift-water rescue on April 6 when a vehicle entered the Arkansas River—Cpl.
