- ➤ UAFS received a $7.5 million anonymous gift to launch a new Center for Nonprofits that will offer training, mini-grants, and other support to help River Valley organizations grow. The center is located in the Bakery District downtown and the university will soon begin its search for a director—boosting local nonprofit efforts. Southwest Times Record
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Governor Sanders signed an executive order to help those affected by severe storms and tornadoes around April 2 in over 60 counties including Crawford, Sebastian, and Franklin counties. (The order extends 2024 tax filing and payment deadlines to July 31 and waives a $10 fee for expedited title processing for residents in these areas.) 4029 News
- ➤ The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission advised hunters to check routes and drive carefully on roads that may still be unsafe after heavy rains and floods hit the state one week ago — the special youth turkey hunt on Saturday showed that some areas will not be examined for damage until repairs are completed in one or two weeks. Officials urged hunters to inspect their routes in daylight before heading out. 5 News

- ➤ Students from the Arkansas College of Osteopathic Medicine partnered with Remote Area Medical & local professionals to host a free clinic at the Fort Smith Convention Center on April 5th and 6th that offered health, dental, and vision care to over 200 patients. More than 200 volunteers helped deliver care valued at over $172,000 & the event aimed to serve uninsured community members. River Valley Democrat-Gazette
- ➤ Baptist Health–Fort Smith is using the Ion Robotic Bronchoscopy System to help doctors locate and biopsy small lung nodules on the same day. The new technology speeds up lung cancer detection and shortens wait times for local patients. 5 News
