  • The Junior League of Fort Smith will host its Day at the Derby fundraiser this spring, inviting locals to wear big hats or bow ties and enjoy horse-themed activities — real or stick — in downtown Fort Smith to support community programs.  River Valley Democrat-Gazette

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Apr. 4, a 14-inch water line broke near the Riley Farm area on Highway 71, causing low water pressure and service outages while crews worked nonstop after uncovering a 3-foot hole; repairs were expected to be completed that night.  City of Fort Smith

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Arkansas College of Health Sciences is hosting a spring art exhibit with Choctaw Nation Public Arts that displays over 70 cultural objects and artworks. The opening reception is (5 to 7 p.m.) on April 9 and the exhibit runs through May 22 at the ACHE event center.  River Valley Democrat-Gazette
  • Fort Smith Little Theatre will show Drinking Habits from April 9 to 18 — a fast-paced farce about mistaken identities and secret wine sales by nuns that offers both evening and afternoon performances. Tickets cost $20 on opening night and $14 for later shows.  River Valley Democrat-Gazette

  • UAFS has launched Arkansas's first Bachelor of Science in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering to help meet local manufacturing needs + grow the workforce pipeline.
