ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Fort Smith Police responded to a vehicle-pedestrian accident at 1800 Grand Avenue that caused non-life-threatening injuries and will delay traffic until the scene is cleared — officials advised drivers to choose alternate routes.  City of Fort Smith

CRIME NEWS

  • A first court appearance for a convicted felon accused of first-degree murder in the March 16 death of a Fort Smith woman at her home has been postponed for a second week as he remains hospitalized.  River Valley Democrat-Gazette

  • Tyler Childers is set to perform at Simmons Bank Arena on April 6 at 8 p.m.—Memphis-born singer-songwriter Cory Branan will serve as his opener.  Arkansas Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Arkansas Senate on Tuesday approved a bill—requiring the Education Department to include a discussion on human fetal development in state education standards.  River Valley Democrat-Gazette
  • The University of Arkansas at Fort Smith launched its largest fundraising campaign in history last Wednesday at the Stubblefield Center — unveiling its Intrepid Ambition project to raise 85 million dollars and reshape access to education, improve academic quality and boost local economic growth. University leaders said the campaign lasting eight years and ending in 2028 has already reached about 80 percent of its goal — with support from over 6400 donors.  River Valley Democrat-Gazette
  • UAFS announced yesterday a $7.5 million gift that will endow a new Center for Nonprofits at the university—one of its largest donations during an $85 million campaign.   • The Fort Smith Police Department warned residents to avoid driving into flooded areas—especially near Highway 271 and Highway 71—as severe weather remains possible over the next few days, and it announced that the tornado siren test has been canceled.  City of Fort Smith
  • Today, the Consent Decree Compliance Program and Infrastructure Improvements 2024 Annual Report is available on the City website— it explains how the City is working with the EPA and Department of Justice to assess the sanitary sewer system and plan projects to reduce sewer overflows into local waterways.  City of Fort Smith
  • Zack Gramlich taught a physics workshop with paper airplanes at Darby and now serves as a state legislator for District 50 to help families in Fort Smith.
