ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Fort Smith Police responded to a stalled train on Highway 45 yesterday—officers are diverting traffic at Geren Road and Planters Road while drivers are advised to avoid the area.  City of Fort Smith
  • Crews in Crawford County fought a fire around Frog Bayou that was contained early Tuesday morning, and no properties were damaged—officials warn that burn bans are in effect as nearly every county remains at high risk for wildfires.  4029 News

CRIME NEWS

  • A Fort Smith man, 23-year-old Cody Lee Hill, was accused of creating a fake realty firm to scam victims and missed several court hearings—resulting in arrest warrants from Benton, Washington and Franklin counties.  River Valley Democrat-Gazette
  • Authorities arrested 52-year-old John Bailey from Bonanza after he hit and killed motorcyclist Warren Campbell on March 17 on Tennessee Ridge Road south of Fort Smith—police later located his white truck, released him on $20,000 bail, and he pleaded not guilty on March 24 as he now faces charges of negligent homicide and fleeing the scene.  5 News

  • Ryan Riggs blasted a grand slam that led UA Fort Smith to an 8 to 6 win over Rogers State during Tuesday's game at Crowder Field. The win ended the team's three game losing streak—setting the stage for a three game home series against Washburn this weekend.  River Valley Democrat-Gazette
  • Local soccer players will try out for the Kick for a Cause fundraiser team next week at 7 p.m. on April 2 at Southside High School—players must be at least 17—and the 20 selected will face the Las Chivas Legends in a match set for May 4 at Northside High School; chosen athletes will get a uniform and hold four practices while raising funds for programs like Dream Team and CarePortal.  River Valley Democrat-Gazette
