  • Fort Smith Police Department is hosting a free crime prevention class that covers challenges like illicit drugs and dangerous phone apps. The session will be held on April 1 at 6 PM in the FSPD Community Room at 100 South 10th Street to offer essential safety tips for parents and guardians.  City of Fort Smith

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Fort Smith School District received 53 acceptable suggestions for renaming its Service Center at 3205 Jenny Lind Road on Facebook — 33 recommend naming it for Dr. Benny L. Gooden — and the results will be presented to the School Board at a later date.  River Valley Democrat-Gazette
  • Arkansas Tech University’s Upward Bound programs earned first place in an engineering contest held in Fayetteville in March, with students (from local high schools) participating; the team will return to compete at ATU in Russellville in 2027.  River Valley Democrat-Gazette

  • Federal officials have expanded a recall for nearly 10 million pounds of Trader Joe’s Vegetable Fried Rice due to glass contamination (with best-by dates from Feb. 28 through Nov. 19) across 43 states, including here; consumers should discard or return the product to avoid any risk.  5 News
