  • Fort Smith will host the 2nd Annual General Darby Challenge on Sunday, April 27 at 7:00 a.m. at Cisterna Park, offering a ruck march, half marathon, 10K, or 5K to honor General William O. Darby and sister cities in Italy. Participants must register by March 31 to take advantage of early pricing — finishers will earn medals and top performers will receive special recognition — while a Silent Mile will honor WWII Arkansans and mark the 80th anniversary of General Darby’s death and the World War II armistice.  City of Fort Smith

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Fort Smith-based ArcBest will hold its annual shareholders meeting on April 25 with board elections, an advisory vote on executive compensation and ratification of its independent accounting firm. A Securities and Exchange Commission filing showed that executive pay decreased in 2024, with the CEO’s compensation dropping from $6.31 million to $4.50 million—information that will be discussed at the meeting.  River Valley Democrat-Gazette

  • A motorcyclist was flown to the hospital after a hit-and-run on Tennessee Road just south of Fort Smith on Monday—Warren Campbell, 52, is in critical condition while police arrested John Bailey of Bonanza, who now faces a Class B felony charge for leaving the scene of an accident with serious injury.  4029 News
  • Brian Keith Mays—whose ties include Arkansas—was convicted on March 13 in federal court for armed bank robbery at FNB Community Bank in Harrah, Oklahoma, where he stole $12,123.  River Valley Democrat-Gazette

  • Families in Fort Smith can join Sesame Street Live on May 16 at the Convention Center when Elmo, Abby Cadabby + Cookie Monster star in an interactive 80-minute show with a 20-minute intermission. Tickets went on sale on March 17.  Southwest Times Record

HEALTH NEWS

  • Dr. Vasile Popa—a board-certified neurologist—joined Baptist Health-Fort Smith today at 10:30 a.m. He earned his medical degree in Romania and completed a neurology residency at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, and he will care for patients in both the hospital and the clinic at Baptist Health Neuroscience Center at 1500 Dodson Ave.  River Valley Democrat-Gazette
