  • Main Street Fort Smith launches the Commerce Collective, a downtown business incubator that fills vacant storefronts with six-month rent coverage provided by Main Street — spurring local small business growth. Applications are open until April 3, with selected businesses starting from May through October.  5 News

  • Karthik Dalai, an 11-year-old sixth grader from East Hills Middle School in Greenwood, won the Arkansas State Spelling Bee on Saturday, Mar. 7 — after spelling paratactic at the Vines Center in Little Rock.  River Valley Democrat-Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Fort Smith Board of Directors will review bids for the $2.46 million water slide project at Parrot Island Waterpark during a study session Tuesday, Mar. 10. City officials & board members expect the discussion to set the stage for adding multiple new slides.  River Valley Democrat-Gazette

  • The UAFS baseball team was swept over the weekend by Fort Hays State with scores of 15-5, 5-1, and 10-5. The Lions remain winless in MIAA play after a tough series on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.  River Valley Democrat-Gazette
