  • Fort Smith Police and Fire are responding to a structure fire at 4115 South Zero Street, and while the cause remains unknown (officials advise locals to avoid the area) updates will follow.  City of Fort Smith

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The Port of Fort Smith has received an $8.1M federal grant to rebuild its flood-damaged infrastructure and construct three new warehouses with extra truck parking — construction will begin by late 2026 and finish by late 2027 to ease congestion for rail freight across 17 western states.  5 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Greenwood School Board recognized two high school students on Thursday after they earned perfect ACT scores and received plaques at a ceremony in Greenwood.  River Valley Democrat-Gazette

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Springdale-based Tyson Foods settled its long-running dispute over chicken litter pollution in the Illinois River on Thursday, agreeing to remove waste and contribute to a $25 million cleanup while ending its appeal. Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond announced the deal to safeguard local water and support regional growers.  Arkansas Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Wednesday, Feb. 11, Attorney General Tim Griffin opened a new satellite office in Fayetteville to give University of Arkansas law students the opportunity to clerk year-round (replacing a former Lowell location). The office will soon add an attorney focused on consumer protection as part of a one-year lease arrangement.  Arkansas Times

  • Former Razorback Dominic Fletcher visited the team in Fayetteville and gave defensive pointers to right fielder Kuhio Aloy as Arkansas prepares for Friday's season opener at the College Baseball Showdown in Arlington — his advice aims to boost outfield skills ahead of the game.  River Valley Democrat-Gazette
