- ➤ Today, the Sebastian Retired Citizens Association is hosting a fall festival at the Fort Smith Senior Activity Center (2700 Cavanaugh Road) from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The carnival will offer Bingo, food trucks, craft vendors, free health screenings, and a motorcycle ride by 100 Faith Riders to raise funds for the Meals on Wheels program. - ➤ Arkansas State Police said advanced DNA testing confirmed that remains found in east Arkansas in 1977 are those of Charles Howard Wallace—which his family last heard from in 1974—and they are now looking into how he died. Arkansas Times
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Main Street Fort Smith in partnership with RiverBoy Foundation has been awarded a Levitt AMP Music Series grant for 2026-28 that will bring three more years of free, family-friendly live music downtown. The grant provides $4,000 per show—allowing up to 10 concerts in a season—and will involve community partners to complete the funding. River Valley Democrat-Gazette

- ➤ The Literacy Council of Western Arkansas launched its 'Be a Bestie' campaign on Aug. 28 to boost local reading skills and support services in Sebastian County—aiming to recruit volunteers and secure funding as one in four local adults faces low literacy.
